FAQs

1. What is XMS/PrivateXMS ?

Xecure Message Service (XMS) is a simple mobile software that NSS has developed to offer privacy in SMS or text communication. Simply put, the SMS sent using PrivateXMS are only to be accessed by the intended recipients, because only the intended recipient will have the key to access the SMS. The SMS messages that are stored in your mobile are also password protected; hence, nobody will have access to your messages without your permission.

2. Why do I need PrivateXMS ?

Is your mobile phones considered one of your most used communication tools? Then, it is your right to protect your privacy in the busy mobile communication environment. For instance, you might have some private and confidential data stored in your SMS messages; imagine this, if you leave your mobile phone on the desk by accident, any nosey parker can have access to your data in your SMS and we are sure that you do not want that! It is time you have ultimate control over who does and does not read your SMS messages. It's merely a matter of one's privacy.

3. Where can I get PrivateXMS ?

You can get it from our online NSS Webstore www.privateXMS.com. Now, you can also purchase PrivateXMS for family or friends who want to be in your private network. If you are a PayPal account holder, you can pay through your account. Alternatively, we accept major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, Visa Electron and Discovery.

4. Do both sender and receiver need PrivateXMS in order to exchange private SMS messages ?

Yes. Both individuals need to have the application on their phones so that they can send and receive messages in complete privacy.

5. How does PrivateXMS work ?

This might be a little technical, but the software application handles the process quite intuitively and makes it easy to use. Before you can start using PrivateXMS, the software must be installed on both phones followed by a pairing process.

In essence, when you install PrivateXMS on your phone, two keys are generated. One key is kept secret on your phone and is called the Private key. Another key is sent out to other people and is called the Public Key. Only the Public Key can encrypt / decrypt messages by the Private Key. Thus, if you have somebody else's public key, you can send a message that only they can decrypt with their private key. This is why you have to 'pair up' via PrivateXMS's PairMe function before sending any PrivateXMS messages. Each contact only needs to be paired once.

When sending your first XMS message before pairing, a pairing process under the option called "PairMe" will take effect. This is normal for Public Private Key encryption mechanism.

6. Is PrivateXMS bound to my handset or my phone number ?

PrivateXMS uses phone number as unique identification to establish the security and trust channel and not the handphone.

7. Does PrivateXMS protect my messages while they are inside my mobile handset ?
